Connection edge Jabloteh 2-1
W CONNECTION maintained their ten-point lead over CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh in the 15th round of the T&T Pro League yesterday. The Connection lads earned a narrow 2-1 victory over 2004 champs North East Stars at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground while Jabloteh got the better of Caledonia AIA/Fire 2-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Striker Andre Toussaint continued his prolific goal scoring form, netting his tenth goal of the season as he opened Connection’s account in the 17th minute, while national defender David Atiba Charles doubled his team’s advantage in the 21st. Midfielder Fabian Garcia pulled one back for North East with a 71st minute penalty but Connection held firm for the remaining 19 minutes. Jabloteh and Caledonia struggled to come to grips with the muddy surface at Mucurapo, which resulted from yesterday’s torrential downpour. But the San Juan outfit opened the scoring in the 45th as captain Angus Eve sent his deep left-side corner to the path of fellow midfielder Trent Noel, whose shot went in through the crowded defence. Caledonia muffed a crucial chance to equalise in the 56th, as striker Abdallah Phillip sent his left-footer high from close range, with goalkeeper Daurance Williams beaten. And AIA/Fire will rue that error, as Kerry Baptiste converted an 82nd minute penalty, after Jason Marcano was brought down by defender Mark Small. In the day’s other contest, Defence Force crushed Tobago United 5-0 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet. Burly striker Devon Jorsling led the way with a double, in the 12th and 57th minutes, while Kevon Carter (23rd), national defender Anton Pierre (67th) and Christopher Durity (87th) chipped in with one apiece.
