BWIA, CLICO to transport fans

NATIONAL airline BWIA have announced that they will operate a special non-stop service to Costa Rica today to allow local football fans to fly to San Jose to support the Trinidad and Tobago football team against Costa Rica in a crucial 2006 World Cup qualifier tonight.

In a statement yesterday, BWIA communications manager Dionne Ligoure said the airline had arranged the service for local supporters as they support the Warriors quest to reach next year’s World Cup Finals in Germany.

"The national carrier BWIA remains an active contributor to local and regional sports, culture, tourism and the arts, and takes the opportunity to wish the Warriors the very best as they move closer to realising TT’s World Cup dream," Ligoure said.

This assistance came just moments after CONCACAF president and Special Advisor to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) Jack Warner revealed his inability to provide a chartered flight for the match.

BWIA have taken up the responsibility of taking supporters for the all important match, and they have been joined by leading local conglomerate CL Financial, along with their subsidiaries CLICO, Angostura, CIB, CMMB, Flavorite, CL Communications, CLICO Energy, Colfire, Healthnet and Home Construction Limited.

The move, which got huge support from one of the CL Financial’s directors Andre Monteil is aimed at continuing their commitment to the development of sports in the twin-island republic.

The CLICO group will include President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago George Maxwell Richards, his wife Dr Jean Ramjohn Richards and Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Roger Boynes.

Also included in this charter are West Indies batsman Brian Lara, former national player and coach Gally Cummings and president of the Football Federation Oliver Camps.

Also seven lucky CLICO clients stand to get free tickets through a random draw.

Ian Garcia, a director of CLICO and an avid football enthusiast described the idea of a chartered flight as "unique and historic."
