Cops rescue missing baby
The three-week-old baby who disappeared after her mother was murdered in a La Horquetta house on Saturday, was found unharmed yesterday in a house at Maracas, St Joseph. The child was found in the care of a 24-year-old woman and her grandparents. The woman was taken into custody and is assisting the police in their investigation into the murder of Reena Kissoon, the baby’s mother. The child, named Alicia, was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where she was medically examined. Doctors gave the child "a clean bill of health," saying she had not been abused in any way. At about 6.15 pm yesterday, Cpl Thalia Francis accompanied by Insp Johnny Abraham, emerged from the office of the doctor with the baby wrapped in a blanket. The child remained peacefully in the arms of the female police officer as she was being taken to an unmarked police vehicle. Arrangements were being made late yesterday for the child’s maternal grandmother, Balaar Kissoon, to take custody her. Acting on information, officers executed a search warrant at the home of a woman yesterday, where they found the baby asleep. The child was quickly taken into the care of officers while the three occupants of the house were detained. Reena Kissoon’s partly decomposed body was found in her La Horquetta home on Saturday afternoon by neighbours who were alerted by a foul stench. An autopsy on Monday revealed that Kissoon’s throat was slit and she had been chopped twice. The party of officers involved in the rescue of the child included acting Insps Johnny Abraham, John Daniel, Sgt Hamilton, Cpl Tim Tew, and PCs Lucas, and Cpl Thalia Francis.
