Congratulations Warriors
THE EDITOR: I must congratulate the Trinidad and Tobago Warriors who played like real warriors on Saturday September 3, 2005 to the amasement of all Trinbagonians. Although the Guatemalans had brought their image of death with them to intimidate our Warriors, it was they who suffered defeat when the golden boot of the most belittled player Stern John, hammered the last two nails in their coffin, in the space of only one minute. This brought joy and happiness to all Trinbagonians. Anyhow, I must congratulate coach Leo Beenhakker for adopting the old and proven football philosophy, that attack is the best means of defence.
Let’s not forget the great little magician, Russell Latapy who brought inspiration to captain Dwight Yorke and Stern John, and scored the equaliser very early in the second half, bringing hope to the entire team. All the younger players who played such excellent football, which contributed immensely to the sudden death of the Guatemalans, must also be congratulated in a special way. We must try some more shots like that of Jason Scotland and Chris Birshall, because I had the honour of scoring two goals from over the half-way line (free kicks) and I can tell you, nothing can be more pleasant than to see a football travelling like a blimp elevating at first, then dipping about six inches under the cross bar at the corner of the upright with everyone just gazing, then the applause.
I think at last, without a doubt, we have the right formula. I was very pleased with the number of shots our Warriors took in that match, and that is what football is about and winning. And that had been my only problem with our Warriors. You see, football is like lottery, if you do not have a ticket you do not have a chance. And in football if you do not take shots, you cannot score goals, you can only draw if your opponents do not score on you. From Friday evening to Saturday just before the match started, I was telling everyone we will beat them three-one. Congrats to the entire team and officials, also our supporters.
