Rain stops Angostura Inter-Zone final

RAIN played havoc with yesterday’s Angostura Inter-Zone Limited Overs Cricket final between Central and North East at the National Cricket Centre Ground at Balmain, Couva.

A heavy downpour brought the match to a premature stop with a drawn result giving both teams a share of the honours.

At that stage Central had posted an impressive score of 225 for the loss of eight wickets in 45 overs boosted by a half centry from Manoj Sirjoo.

Sirjoo topscored with 57 while Central captain, the new West Indies wicketkeeper Dinesh Ramdhin contributed a valuable 33. Fast bowler Ravi Rampaul, who is gaining a reputation as a capable allrounder made 29.

Narendra Bridgelal was the best bowler for the North East, taking four wickets for just 30 runs.

Powerful allrounder Richard Kelly claimed two for 35 and former West Indies fast bowler Mervyn Dillion took one for 14.

Before North East could start their reply the rain came and chased the players off the field.
