Fatima, San Juan, ‘Naps’ stay top
FATIMA, SAN JUAN and Naparima were all in winners’ row, and each maintained their number one positions in the respective North, East and South Zones of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday. Fatima recorded their fourth win in succession in the North with a 4-0 triumph at home over QRC, with Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 defender Marvin James opening the scoring with a penalty and Emmanuel Joseph made the scoreline 2-0 at halftime, while Makesi Lewis netted twice in the second half. Malick lie in second place with a 1-0 win over St Mary’s at the CIC Ground, Serpentine Road, courtesy a Keshif Thomas item, while the "Westmoorings Tigers" St Anthony’s thrashed Tranquility 7-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. In the East, Kadeem Gibbs and Elijah Manners notched two goals apiece to guide San Juan to a convincing 4-0 win over "the Dial Dynamos" Arima at the Arima Municipal Stadium while second-placed, the "Blue Thunder" El Dorado cruised past newcomers Malabar by a similar scoreline at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, with Dwight Critchlow scoring twice while Jamal Gay and Kendall Alleyne notched one apiece. But St Augustine registered the most lopsided result of the day, 11-0 over St George’s at St Augustine. National Under-17 midfielder Shastri Spencer scored a hat-trick for "the Green Machine," with Daniel Joseph, John Stewart, Emmanuel Alexander, Elton John, Joel Williams, Jesse Davis and Mark Alibey adding one each, while the Barataria-based school also netted an own goal to compound their misery. Naparima maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a narrow 1-0 triumph away to Fyzabad while Princes Town jumped to second spot in the South with a similar 1-0 result over St Benedict’s at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Following Friday’s aborted fixture between Presentation and Carapichaima, at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, the Central Zone commenced yesterday with Marabella whipping Union Claxton Bay 3-0 at the Couva venue and Chaguanas squeezing past Tabaquite 1-0 at Chaguanas. Action in the various zones will continue on Tuesday.
