Female boxers in war of words
A WAR of words has erupted between Trinidad and Tobago born Lisa "Bad News" Brown and American Jackie Chavez ahead of their world boxing title fight on September 23 at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo. Both fighters are expected to arrive in Trinidad and Tobago today but have already exchanged verbal salvos in the build-up to their clash for the world super bantamweight crown. The fight, over ten rounds is the feature of a card which also has three other Trinidad and Tobago female boxers against their American counterparts for world titles. It is being promoted by ABC Boxing Academy based at Finland Street in St James who expect to broadcast the card live on the Internet and will be filming for future video release around the world.Yesterday Boxu Potts, a director of ABC Boxing Academy said both Brown and Chavez have exchanged tapes predicting the outcome of their encounter. Chavez of New Mexico reportedly warned Brown that boxing is a serious business and that she is a businesswoman who won’t take defeat easily. And in an immediate response, Brown said she will be going for a fifth round knockout when the two meet in the ring. Also on the card are Trinidad and Tobago’s Iva Weston, Scroller Carrington and Kim "Bone Crusher" Quashie. In the undercard Vicki Boodram comes up against Stephanie George of Guyana. Both Brown and Chavez have a packed agenda on their arrival today with interviews on television, a media conference and sightseeing along with training sessions at the Jean Pierre Complex in the week leading up to their fight.
