McComie, Nixon for FA course
THE TRINIDAD and Tobago Football Federation have selected five local coaches to be among 32 from 18 CONCACAF countries taking part in the ten-day FA International Coaching Licence Course which starts today at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence. They are Michael McCommie (North Zone District), Terry Williams (Tobago), Peter Pierre (East Zone), Kurtwyn Beard (Central Zone District), Rajesh Latchoo (South Zone District) and Jerren Nixon (Eastern County). This will be the fourth consecutive year that this prestigious coaching course has been held in Trinidad. So far over 100 coaches from all corners of the confederation have attended the programme. This year participants will be representing the following countries: Aruba, Antigua-Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Monsterrat, Puerto Rico, St Kitts-Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent, Suriname, US Virgin Islands, USA and Trinidad and Tobago. The FA International Coaching Licence course is part of a collaborative agreement between CONCACAF and the FA that focuses on providing high-quality training for coaches, administrators and referees. The course will be conducted by two leading FA Instructors Colwyn Rowe and Chris Whalley. Rowe is currently the Technical Director for all National Youth Teams in England and he is also a UEFA "A" Licence Coach. He holds a Masters Degree in Sports Science and is a part-time university lecturer. Whalley is an experienced Coach Educator who has worked extensively in the United Kingdom and the USA. Participants will undergo a rigorous programme from 8 am to 8 pm each day covering topics such as Strategies and Tactics, Technical Development, Planning and Preparation, Attacking and Defending Principles, Systems of Play and Diet and Nutrition. There will be both theoretical and practical examinations at the end of the course and only those to pass both sets of examinations will receive the FA International Coaching Licence.
