Andrews scores for Rangers

LONDON: Trinidad and Tobago’s Marvin Andrews got among the goals as Scottish football giants Glasgow Rangers came from behind to beat Division One Clyde 5-2 in the CIS Knock Out Cup on Tuesday.

The 29-year old defender scored in the 111th minute, after the match was forced into overtime with the scores locked 2-2 at the final whistle.

Thomas Buffel scored in the fifth minute to give Rangers the lead and that advantage remained until the sixth minute of the second half when Craig Bryson brought Clyde level.

The underdogs then went ahead when Stephen O’Donnell converted a 73rd minute penalty but Rangers struck back quickly, scoring a minute later to level the scores.

After neither team could find a goal in the remaining 17 minutes of normal time, Rangers took charge of the game in extra time, getting two goals from Federico Nieto in the 98th and 113th and another from Andrews.

In North England, Grenada international Jason Roberts came off the bench to score and fire Premiership Wigan Athletic into the next round of the Carling Cup Knock Out competition.

Struggling against League One side Bournemouth, Wigan eked out a 1-0 win as Roberts struck in the 86th minute after coming on in the 58th minute.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago defender Brent Sancho played the full match as his League One Gillingham created a major upset by beating Premiership Portsmouth 3-2 in added extra time.

TT striker Kenwyne Jones emerged on the losing end for Championship giants Southampton who were embarrassed 1-0 by League Two minnows Mansfield Town in another Carling Cup encounter.
