Crown Point, Flying Millie in neck and neck battle

CROWN POINT and Flying Millie are currently in a neck and neck battle in the quest to determine the leading horse for the Arima Race Club (ARC) 2005 season.

Both three-year-olds are among the 13 horses vying for the Royal Oak Trinidad Derby, and the $150,000 jackpot, at Santa Rosa Park, Arima tomorrow.

And Crown Point, under owner Peter Hackett and trainer Glenn Mendez, is in line to claim the $250,000 bonus prize if he is the first to complete the 2,000-metre course.

In six starts this year, the Tobago-bred horse has four victories under its belt, including the first two legs of the Triple Crown — the Easter Guineas and the Midsummer Classic.

Victory tomorrow will see $400,000 added to its 2005 purse of $201,500.

The Jamaican-bred Flying Millie has a record of five wins from seven races this year, and will also be looking to fatten its pockets, which have amassed $190,500 this year.
