Taylor wants help for Guyana football

FIFA’S Goal Project Development Officer, Trinidadian Harold Taylor told a press briefing at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) conference room that he will report to the world governing body his findings on his one-day visit to Guyana.

On Thursday Taylor arrived in the country and went on several inspection visits to football grounds in the West Demerara, East Coast and Georgetown areas, assessing and evaluating the needs for rehabilitation. The development officer also had a glimpse of the identified piece of land for the Goal Project Site at Orangestein on the East Bank of Essequibo.

In total, Taylor had a first hand view of thirteen fields which in his words, "Basically most of the fields are in need of refurbishing and levelling. Some could also do with work to the stands and pavilion. The first thing I’ll recommend is to get those fields back in shape."

The affected grounds visited were Ann’s Grove, Golden Grove, BV, Melanie, Victoria, Plaisance, Meten-Meer-Zorg, Den Amstel, Crane, Tucville, Camptown, GSC and Independence Park.

The FIFA official reminded the media that the world governing body for the sport is committed to the development of football. The GFF are in the process of seeking reinstatement on the FIFA’s Goal Project in order to share in the benefits.

According to Taylor whose visit ties in with the reacceptance procedure, "I am certain the GFF will be reinstated on the Goal Project."

The GFF is hoping under the Project an Academy/Training facility could be established on the parcel of land which was donated by a private individual who prefers to remain anonymous.

Initially it was reported by the Federation that the size of the land was some 25 acres but recently it has been stated that the size has been reduced to about eight to ten acres. President of the GFF, Colin Klass, told the Press that the donor will be using up the land for development which will not impede the setting up of the much-needed football facility.

Klass also informed that the legal course for the ownership of the land should be completed in three weeks time.

The FIFA Goal Project Officer advised that the Bureau will meet on November 7 at which time a decision will be made on his findings and reports as they relate to the GFF’s readmission.

Taylor also made it clear that none of the FIFA funds allocated to the Goal Project will go to the GFF, instead it will be paid directly to the contractor and consultant.
