Chewing gum bandits rob guards
BANDITS stuck chewing gum in the key- hole of a night deposit vault, then robbed two security guards of an undisclosed sum of money and cheques after the guards were unable to unlock the vault. The gunmen also robbed the guards of their service revolvers and rounds of ammunition. Police said the plot was executed about 8 pm on Saturday at Gulf City Shopping Complex, La Romaine. At about 7.45 pm on Saturday, Woman Estate Constable Martin and Estate Cpl Dhanessar, attached to Sentinel Security Services Ltd, went to Francis Fashions and Shoe Locker, located in the mall, to collect a deposit bag, containing an undisclosed sum of money and cheques. Martin collected the bag and proceeded to the vault located outside the mall. But when Martin got to the vault, she observed chewing gum stuck inside the keyhole. Martin, who could not use the key to unlock the vault, turned around to inform her colleague, but was accosted by three men armed with guns. One of the bandits was pointing a gun to Dhanessar’s head. The gunmen grabbed the bag and then relieved the guards of their Taurus .38 Special revolver and six rounds of ammunition each. The bandits then ran off. Cpl Annmarie McDowell of the San Fernando CID is continuing investigations.
