The FBI and Scotland Yard welcomed by anti-crime committee
The Ad Hoc Committee for the Eradication of Crime in Laventille believes that the introduction of the Scotland Yard and the FBI in Port-of-Spain is a positive step in the fight against crime in Trinidad and Tobago. In a press release, the co-ordinator Lennox Smith, said that any crime intervention will be the approach to soliciting the co-operation of the public. He said the work of the foreign agencies and the large investment in advanced surveillance technology, can only be effective with a supportive public. He noted that the focus on Civil Society Education Facilitation can produce civic-minded citizens buttressed by swift justice, a superlative witness protection machinery and efficient police service in the area of crime detection and successful prosecution. Smith added that the deficiency is in local law enforcement’s crime detection and the trial of accused persons, and the seeming incompetence of prosecutors based on paltry evidence in criminal preceding. The Ad Hoc Committee will meet next weekend to evaluate the Government’s crime plan and its impact on Laventille and environs.
