Local team wins show jumping

THE TRINIDAD leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association (CEA) Junior Show Jumping Competition has been completed.

The event took place at the Police Mounted Branch, Long Circular Road, St James last weekend when the main competitors were required to have been 16 or under as of the first of this year.

The event was well-contested by teams from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Antigua.

In the end, Trinidad and Tobago were the eventual winners when they accumulated the most points.

The local team was composed of veteran rider Melissa Inglefield and a new rider for the team, Sophie Muller.

Both did very well and ended up in a three-way tie for individual first place with the Antiguan rider, Demar Redman.

Since both TT riders placed so well, the local team earned the most points.

There was also a competition for the younger riders who were 12 or younger as of the first of this year.

First place was won by Anya Edwards Sealy from Antigua, while Trinidad and Tobago riders rode well with Kyna Thompson placing second and Cashell Watsun, third.

These youngsters jumped the 26 level.

Other young riders who jumped well were Garryk Jaggan of TT, Joseph Adams of Jamaica and Christina Rostant of TT.

After the older riders finished the actual competition, some of the youngest riders from TT got some good practice at a competition.

Six youngsters jumped "cross-rails" to gain experience in the arena. They were Britney Santos, Andrew Halfhide, Sandhya Moll, Chelsea Thomas, Alexandra Bovell and Chiara Lucie-Smith.

During the next month, riders will also travel to the other islands in the competition and the country with the most points at the end will crowned the champions for the region.
