Under-19 stars in Carib Beer squad
FIVE Trinidad and Tobago cricketers selected to the 20-member West Indies Under-19 training squad in preparation for the Youth World Cup in Sri Lanka next February, will join the Trinidad and Tobago senior team in preparation for the 2005/2006 Carib Beer Series. The tournament is scheduled to start in November, and the quintet of skipper Jason Mohammed, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, William Perkins and Rishi Bachan will join 10 other cricketers for specialised training at the National Cricket Centre at Balmain in Couva, starting today from 3 pm. The 14 players now participating in the President’s Cup Limited Overs series in Barbados will join these cricketers at the conclusion of the tournament. Three other players, who recently returned after participating in the English Minor Leagues, have also been invited to be among the training squad. They are left-handed batsman Aniel Kanhai, opening batsman Imran Khan and left-arm unothordox spinner Magnum Nanan. West Indies left-arm spinner Dave Mohammed, who had to cut short his particpation in the President’s Cup series because of a thumb injury, has also been invited to attend some of the programmes. The sessions will be conducted by former TT and West Indies all-rounder, Bernard Julien. TT open their quest for top honours in the four-day competition against Guyana in Georgetown. TT training squad: Aniel Kanhai, Amit Jaggernauth, Kieron Pollard, Imran Khan, Kieron Lynch, Gibran Mohammed, Sunil Narine, William Perkins, Dave Mohammed, Rishi Bachan, Theodore Modeste, Sean Siloch, Magnum Nanan, Tishan Maraj and Jason Mohammed.
