Police edge Stokely Vale 2-1
INCLEMENT WEATHER forced the cancellation of three matches in the 18th round of the Sportworld Super League yesterday. Torrential showers soaked the outfields at the Mt Hope Junior Secondary School Ground and the WASA Ground in St Joseph. As a result, the matches between leaders Joe Public and bottom-placed Media 21 FC at Mt Hope and fourth-placed WASA Clean and White and Couva Players United at St Joseph, were postponed to a date to be announced. Crab Connection were unable to leave their base at Santa Cruz as heavy rainfall made travelling impossible. Their scheduled encounter against PLIPDECO Caroni, at Gilbert Park in Couva, was also cancelled. Police stayed in third spot after a narrow 2-1 triumph over Stokely Vale at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima. Striker Neri Joseph netted twice for the lawmen, in the 32nd and 49th minutes, while Kayode Legall scored a consolation for the Tobagonians in the 82nd. Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix responded twice from a goal-down to overcome Superstar Rangers 3-2 at Canaan, Bon Accord. Rangers captain Colin Roberts netted a 32nd minute freekick before Phoenix replied int he 68th courtesy Lejandro Williams. Burly striker Akudu Goodridge restored Rangers’ lead in the 72nd but, one minute later, the prolific Dominique Kerr equalised for the hosts. And, in the first minute of stoppage time, Junior Roberts converted a penalty to complete Phoenix’s comeback. And, in the day’s other clash between M&M Harvard and Maraval Youth Academy at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, both teams drew 2-2.
