Tough battle looms in title chase

A TOUGH battle in Round 19 of the Sportworld Super League will take place this weekend with the top teams looking at two objectives, to leapfrog each other as well as narrowing the gap between themselves and leaders Joe Public.

Four matches will take place today, with the main attraction being the "Eastern Lions" Joe Public travelling south, to the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, to meet the resurgent Police.

Crab Connection, currently second on the standings with 37 points, will also have a major hurdle to overcome when they meet the consistent Superstar Rangers at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima.

Joe Public have 42 points, five more than the "Crabs," with Police next on 36 while WASA Clean & White and Rangers following on 33 points apiece.

Those five teams are the only teams with serious title hopes, with WASA certain to keep the pressure on Joe Public when they oppose the "whipping boys" Media 21 FC at the Mt Hope Junior Secondary School Ground.

Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix, a distant sixth with 26 points, square off against the struggling M&M Harvard at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

Meanwhile, one match is on the agenda today, with Stokely Vale hosting Maraval Youth Academy at the Plymouth Recreation Ground while, on Tuesday, neighbours PLIPDECO Caroni and Couva Players United face off at Gilbert Park in Couva.

All matches will kick off at 4 pm.
