TSTT ‘Sea of Red’ in Panama
A VIBRANT sea of red rose up to greet the Trinidad and Tobago football team when they took to the field on Sunday to confront Panama in a crucial World Cup qualifying match in Panama City. The pulsating sounds of the Laventille Rhythm Section and the Woodbrook Playboyz also echoed throughout the stands as the Warriors unleashed relentless assaults on the Panamanian defence. This will be the scene thanks to TSTT’s unwavering support of the Warriors on their "Journey to Germany 2006" campaign. The company has contributed a chartered flight which took a contingent of over 152 football fans, TSTT and TT Football Federation officials to cheer the Warriors on. The contingent left Trinidad on Sunday at 2.30 pm and arrived on time for the match at 8 pm Panama time (9 pm TT time). Trinidad and Tobago won the match 1-0 on a Stern John goal in the 62nd minute. "It is important to keep the momentum going for the team. They know they are carrying the hopes of the entire nation on their shoulders and it will be a huge boost for them to see this contingent of their countrymen backing them all the way," said TSTT’s vice-president of Mobile Services Ian Joseph. Joseph said that TSTT’s main goal in the Journey to Germany campaign was to bringing fans closer to the game and to the team and this trip embodied that commitment. The Warriors quietly arrived in the City of Panama on October 4 and have since been involved in a series of intense practice sessions. TSTT has long been a football fan and in 2004 agreed to sponsor the Warriors for $3 million in a two-year period. Additionally, TSTT has attempted to raise $9 million to assist in the team’s extensive training programme with the launch of the Go Team text messaging campaign earlier this year.
