D/Force shoot into Cup ‘semis’
LEAGUE leaders Defence Force have shot Fire Service out of the Media 21-sponsored Northern Football Association Premier Division League Cup. The Army-Coast Guard combination got a hat-trick from their prolific goalscorer Gary John, two from Stirling O’Brien and another from Keefe Weekes in their emphatic 6-0 victory over the Firemen. Six St Francois Nationals players scored one goal each to shut out Maple 6-0 to advance to the semi-finals. Richard Lara, Jason Martin, Anthony Peters, ex-Strike Squad midfielder Marlon Morris, Keron Edwards and Akil Weekes were the goal-getters. Malvern had an easy passage into the semi-finals when their opponents T&TEC were expelled from the NFA. Last season’s league champions Media Net Orie advanced by stopping Cosmos Eagles 2-0 on goals by Bandele Julius and Barry Carasquero. Powerhouse Defence Force will meet St Francois Nationals in one semi-finals, while Media Net Orie take on Malvern in the other match. In league action on Saturday, Media Net Orie drubbed Fire Service 7-1 with Julius scoring a hat-trick, Quincy Charles two and Carasquero and Anderson McDavid one each for the winners. Kern Warner got the consolation goal. Superstar Rangers edged Malvern 1-0 with a Jevon Morris strike. And Queen’s Park hammered Cosmos Eagles 9-0 with Marcus Stephen scoring four goals, Allan Tardieu three and Anthony Hewitt two goals. On Sunday afternoon last, Defence Force routed Paragon 8-0 with Gary John and Stirling O’Brien scoring three goals each and Curtis Thomas two. Maple downed Cocorite United 4 — 2 in another match with Julis Dos Santos, Mark Pierre, Dwayne Allahar and Daryl Paul scoring a goal apiece for "The Government" while Curt Pierre and Akini Ash got goals for Cocorite. Superstar Rangers edged Trendsetter Hawks 2-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Under-17 Division knockout. Jevon Morris and Kareem Davidson scored for Rangers, while Jared Bartholomew got the consolation goal. And Defence Force Youths trounced Morvant United 8-1 to also advance to the semi-final round in the age-group. Walter Paul made the match a personal triumph scoring five goals, while Kamul Franklyn, Joel Simeon and Ian Thompson scored a goal each. Stannis Mushington got the lone goal for the Morvant lads.
