Billingy the key for Marshall v-ballers
HUNTINGTON: Trinidad and Tobago’s Kelly Ann Billingy will lead the high-flying Marshall University as they seek to extend their winning streak in Conference USA action this weekend. The teenaged outside hitter, who leads the league in kills with 5.57 per game, will be at the forefront as "the Thundering Herd" clash with the University of Alabama at Birmingham today and the University of Memphis on Sunday. Billingy has been in outstanding form this season and has been the leading hitter for Marshall as they have dominated the league. She is ranked fifth in the nation in kills per game and will be the key to Marshall extending their top form. Marshall possess a 13-4 overall record and are 5-0 in C-USA action this season and are the only unbeaten team in the League at present. In fact, they assumed the Number 1 ranking in the AVCA Midwest regional rankings this week after a series of impressive displays, which include a season-best six match winning streak while capturing the last 13 of their 15 matches. Marshall currently leads overall in hitting percentage (.260), opponent hitting percentage (.148), and blocks per game (2.52). In the C-USA competition, Marshall’s strike rate continues to be high as they currently hit .335 in league play while counting 17.4 kills per game.
