Mangroo wins Sugar and Energy race

STEPHEN MANGROO added another trophy to his cabinet when he turned back a large field to claim the Sugar and Energy Cycle Race in style.

Riding for Team Trek the Guyana-born Mangroo got the better of a challenging field to earn himself the top spot last Saturday in Couva.

His teammate Colin Wilson secured the runner-up position while the Alexander brothers, Joshua and Adam claimed the other two places, third and fourth respectively.

Both riders also represented Team Trek in the event while the determined Shannon Metivier earned himself the fifth place finish riding for Madonna Wheelers. Among the Juniors Mark Codrington pedalled the PL Singh Sonics to winners’ row when he returned the best time in the event.

He too had to ride the race of his life to get the better of a large field including Barry Luces and Garvin Nero, also of PL Singh Sonics, who finished second and third in a race which easily could have been won by any of the top three.

The club of Rafmon Mecalfab earned the top spot among the veterans with Peter Hernandez leading the charge.

Hernandez led from the start and never let it slip despite the the challenge of a tough field.

Kent Luces of the Sonics and Mark Massiah of the Hummingbird Cycle Club earned the second and third places respectively. Among the Tinymites, Aaron Andrews placed ahead of Jason Francis both of the Sonics.
