Drifters snatch windball title


DRIFTERS are new champions of the Media 21 Savannah Boys Windball Cricket League.


They whipped pre-match favourites Auto Village Dollar Touch by seven runs in a pulsating final on Sunday last to pocket the winner’s prize money of $7,000.


After being restricted to 77 for eight wickets off their 15 overs, with Victor Peters 18 and Glen Percival 11. Kenroy Walker grabbed three wickets for 17 runs for Dollar Touch.


When Dollar Touch batted they lost star batsman Riaff Ali on the first ball, but rallied to need 16 runs off 18 balls. But Lincoln Quash who finished with three for 16, struck a double blow and also effected a run out to help Drifters snatch victory by seven runs and confine Dollar Touch to the $4,000 runners-up prize.


Kent Britto took two for 14.


San Juan Sports edged past ex-champs Kings by a meagre three runs to capture third place and the $2,500 prize..


After posting a 62-run total with Augustus Ali 11 the topscorer, they ripped out Kings for 59 despite Sunil Narine’s unbeaten 20, with Dexter Smith taking two wickets for eight runs and Dave Baboolal two for 18. But Xterminators crushed Gradeland by 42 runs to easily win the Loser’s Plate.


The Xterminators rattled up 140 for nine wickets in their 15 overs led by Timothy Surujbally’s 54 not out, then bowled out Gradeland for 98 runs.
