Mohammed XI hold upper hand


JASON Mohammed’s XI held the upper hand in the three-day practice match against the Gregory Mahabir team at the National Cricket Centre yesterday.


The Mohammed XI reached 238 for the loss of eight wickets on day two of the match batting a second time.


Earlier the Gregory Mahabir XI were routed for 139.


This was in reply to 239 made by the Gregory Mahabir XI on the opening day on Friday led by a sparkling 118 by discarded West Indies fastbowler Mervyn Dillion.


Yesterday Samuel Badree remained unbeaten on 92 and captain Mohammed not out on 57 as Mohammed’s team continued to show their dominance with the bat and ball in the match.


Jonathan Augustus also chipped in with 26 as the players all attempted to impress the selectors for a place on the regional Carib Cup team.


The regional four-day tournament gets going next month.


On Friday the Gregory Mahabir XI closed the day on 83 for the loss of five wickets as they responded to the challenging 239 target posted by Moham-med’s team.


Best bowler for the Jason mohammed XI was Imran Khan who claimed four wickets for 46 runs.


Theodore Modeste also had an impressive spell with the ball taking three wickets for 36 runs.


Narine was the best batsman for the Gregory Mahabir XI making 41; Sunil Narine made 26 while Marlon Barclay and Fazil Baksh contributed 25 and 20 respectively to the total.
