Yorke ruled fit to start for Sydney
MELBOURNE: Trinidad and Tobago’s Dwight Yorke will suit up for Sydney FC in the Hyundai A-League today, dismissing doubts over his fitness following a hectic international schedule recently. The 33-year-old striker arrived in Australia yesterday and after a training session under the watchful eyes of coach Pierre Littbarski, was considered fit enough to start the clash against Melbourne Victory at Olympic Park in Melbourne. "Dwight has come back fit and refreshed and he is ready to play," Littbarski told the club’s media. "He is good in the mind and he is good in the legs after watching him training so he will play." There was some doubt surrounding Yorke’s participation, especially after playing two World Cup qualifiers in the space of five days and then taking a 30-hour flight back to Australia. He was part of the successful Warriors squad that beat Panama 1-0 last Saturday and then upset Mexico 2-1 on Wednesday, to claim fourth spot in the CONCACAF zone. The team, skippered by Yorke, will now face Bahrain in a home and away play-off to book a place at the World Cup in Germany next year. Sydney FC are second in the A-League on 13 points, one point behind leaders Adelaide.
