Badree blazes 124 to seal pick

ALLROUNDER Samuel Badree blazed his way to 124 runs and Sherwin Ganga claimed seven wickets for just 20 runs as the Jason Mohammed XI secured an impressive victory over the Gregory Mahabir XI in a three-day practice match at the National Cricket Centre at Balmain Couva yesterday. Tge Mohammed XI won by the comfortable margin of 264 runs.

Scores: Jason Mohammed XI 239 and 324 vs Gregory Mahabir XI 139 and 160.

Badree who resumed on 92 overnight, almost singled handedly led his team to victory as he went to work on some very ordinary bowling. And when his team’s innings came to a close, Badree and his men had posted a challenging 324 total including a sizeable lead from the first innings.

Badree’s knock of 124 consisted nine fours and three sixes and it was made in 338 minutes off 213 balls.

However, he would have been more satisfied that he had impressed the selectors ahead of next month’s regional Carib Beer Cup tournament.

Captain Jason Mohammed who was unbeaten on 57 at the close on Saturday failed to add any to his tally when he resumed yesterday, but the responsibility was picked up by spinner Amit Jaggernauth who lashed an impressive 53.

The off-spin of allrounder Imran Khan was the only bright spark for the Gregory Mahabir XI as he claimed four wickets for 56 runs.

Khan was supported by fastbowler Theodore Modeste who also ended the day with figures of three wickets for 85 runs which could keep him in the selectors’ eyes.

In response the Mahabir XI was bowled out for a meagre 160 in just 47 overs thanks to the mesmerising spin of Ganga, younger brother of Trinidad and Tobago captain Daren Ganga.

He demolished the Mahabir XI batting and secure his place on the national team.

Jaggernauth also claimed two wickets for 41 runs and, like Badree and Modeste will be in contention for selection.

Rodney Sooklal also put up a credible performance in the losing effort striking 36 runs during his turn at the crease for the Gregory Mahabir XI. Khan and Sean Seeloch also contributed 31 runs apiece.
