Fulham end losing streak

LONDON: London football rivals Charlton and Fulham played to a 1-1 draw yesterday at The Valley, ending Fulham’s three-match losing streak but disappointing both Premier League sides.

Charlton missed a chance to move into second place while Fulham remained with only one victory on the season and near the bottom of the table. Instead, Charlton moved into fifth place, and Fulham moved only one spot out of relegation into 17th.

Collins John gave Fulham a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Starting in place of No 1 striker Brian McBride, John scored on a right-footed volley from 15 metres to make it 1-0.

Danny Murphy equal-ised in the 47th, scoring on a 12-metre shot off a cross. The first half of the match was full of scoring chances for both teams, but after Murphy scored neither club threatened to break the tie in southeast London.

After winning their first four to start the season, Charlton have won only one of their last four and have not won at home in their last three.

Chelsea lead the league with 27 points with Tottenham second on 18. Manchester United and Manchester City have 17, and Wigan and Charlton 16 each. Fulham improv-ed to six points, the same as Birmingham City.
