Mucurapo inch closer to title

Mucurapo have a three-point lead over Fatima entering today’s matches, with the 2004 zonal winners opposing the disappointing St Mary’s at the Fatima Ground, Mucurapo while Fatima have a tricky match-up against Malick at the nearby Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

While the top two battle for the title, the "Westmoorings Tigers" St Anthony’s will be looking to seal third place with a win at home to the struggling QRC.

San Juan will be getting themselves ready for the Big 5 contest with an away clash against the "Green Machine" St Augustine while Hillview hosts the "Dial Dynamos" Arima at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.

In the South Zone, Princes Town will be looking to cement second place with full points away to Fyzabad while St Benedict’s, who, like Princes Town are on 17 points, will head to the South-East peninsula to face Mayaro.

Vessigny will host Moruga in the other match of the zone.

All matches kick off at 3.45 pm.

Meanwhile, two matters were addressed by the SSFL Disciplinary Committee recently, with Fatima and QRC ordered to replay their October 12 contest on Saturday, at the QRC Ground.

Fatima led 2-1 before the referee was forced to stop the match due to a dispute between the team officials.

And St George’s College have been banned from the SSFL Championship Division until 2008 after serious breaches of indiscipline. The Barataria-based school forfeited their last three matches and were originally debarred from further participation in the current season.

Officials of St George’s commented that they were unable to field teams due to internal matters, which included the suspension of a number of their players by the school’s principal.

But the SSFL Disciplinary Committee affirmed that they were not kept abreast of the situation in St George’s, and were forced to expel the school, as well as declare their 2005 matches null and void.
