Malvern thrash Paragon in women’s hockey

Rose-Ann Reyes notched a hat-trick for Malvern, in the eighth, 13th and 15th minutes, while Orie Trotman (first and 15th) and Lisa Marcano (22nd and 30th) added one apiece in the rout.

Kristin Thompson scored a pair for Paragon (third and 27th), while Avion Ashton got the other (fifth).

Defence Force was also in winners’ row in the women’s knockout, as they whipped Raiders 3-0 courtesy of a hat-trick from Nicole Dixon — fourth, sixth and 21st minutes.

In the men’s category, Notre Dame edged Fatima 4-3 with Kenneth Whiteman (third and 23rd) and Keith De Peiza (twice in the ninth minute) scoring twice, while Colin Young got a hat-trick in vain for the losers (11th and twice in the 25th).

Defence Force squeezed past Paragon 4-3 in a penalty shootout after both teams were tied at 5-5 after full-time.

Neil Lashley (eighth and 17th) and Nicholas Wren (13th and 24th) netted twice for the Army-Coast Guard combination, while Roger Daniel added another. And Kiel Murray (fourth, 15th and 20th) and Akim Toussaint (14th and 23rd) shared all five goals for Paragon.

In the shoot-out, Lashley, Daniel, Sheldon Froix and Anthony Morales converted their efforts while Toussaint, Murray and Sherbert McKie were successful for Paragon.

Another shootout was needed to determine the outcome of the Queen’s Park-Petrotrin fixture, with the Parkites prevailing 2-0 (with penalties from Paul Weekes and Nicholas Da Costa) after the scores were locked at 5-5.

Raphael Govia led the way for the Parkites with three goals (11th, 16th and 18th), while Douglas Hay (seventh) and Da Costa (26th) added one each. Marcus James registered a hat-trick (10th, 15th and 27th) for the "oil men", with one apiece from Andy Joseph (23rd) and Rishi Bisnath (25th).
