Joe Public women in FA final

JOE PUBLIC women footballers moved into the final of the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Football Association’s FA Cup competition when they edged St Clair Soccer Coaching School 4-3 in a semi-final clash at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Sunday.

A beaver-trick by striker Leslie-Ann James helped send the Joe Public team on their way.

The Lionesses of Joe Public thought they were in for another big win of the season when the prolific James fired them into a second minute lead.

The Tobagonians looked for a desperate fightback in the seconds that followed, but there was no stopping James who got her second of the match a minute later and then completed her hat-trick when she beat the St Clair Coaching School goalie in the 38th minute.

The visitors then pulled a goal back when Candice Edwards fired one past the Public custodian in the 42nd.

And with the Joe Public women enjoying the two-goal lead, Kenya Cordner drew her team within one goal of the Eastern Lionesses when she hammered one home a minute before the half-time interval.

On the resumption Public once again took control of the match as James found the net for the fourth time in the 47th minute.

Still Coaching School refused to lie down and play dead as Akila Arthur once again pulled another goal back with her strike in the 50th minute.

With the goal, the Tobagonians looked to knot the scores with a series of attacks but the Lionesses of Joe Public held on for the win.
