Cricket Board plans 50th birthday

THE TRINIDAD and Tobago Cricket Board of Control (TTCBC) will celebrate their 50th year of existence next June with a grand celebration at their headquarters at the National Cricket Centre at Balmain, Couva.

In a media release issued by the TTCBC, the board has plans to honour the number of voluntary and hard-working persons who have "built an organisation that is today recognised as the number one sport (in terms of administration) in Trinidad and Tobago."

The stakeholders of the local board also came in for special praise — players, clubs, zonal councils, primary and secondary schools representatives, umpires, the national Women’s Cricket Board, the Tobago Cricket Association, nominated members and officers "who collectively and, with honest commitment, have overcome many obstacles to achieve our objectives."

The release continued, "Supported by Government, the West Indies Cricket Board and corporate TT, we have accomplished much and are steadfast in our resolution to do even more as our contribution to human and national development through sports."

A number of projects were outlined by the board, including the Unit Trust Under-19, which have resulted in the national team claiming the regional crowns in 2003 and 2005.

The BGTT Under-17 which was introduced in 2001 to bridge the gap between the Under-15 and Under-19 age groups; the BGTT Under-15 a move which has seen TT victorious in four out of the last six years; KFC Under-13; Flavorite Under-10; Kiddy Cricket and Kids Vacation Clinics.

Other works being undertaken by the TTCBC are the Powergen Youth Coaching and Development Programme for children between the ages of 13-19; specialist clinics; national team preparation at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre, National League competitions; zonal Super League and zonal club competitions.
