Police Stars score fourth straight


CASTRIES: Police Stars, of Trinidad and Tobago, kept up their winning streak and stayed on course to capture their third consecutive Helen of the West Netball Festival title when they trounced St Lucia’s Sandals All-Stars 64-9 on the third night of competition at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on Monday night.


In a one-sided affair, Police Stars chalked up their fourth straight win, leading at the quarter intervals 18-2, 39-3 and 50-7.


Goal shoot Donna Charles was in good form, netting 37 of 41 attempts, and Guisher Grant, also playing as goal-shoot scored 23 of 27 attempts.


Goal attack Shivaughn Skeete scored four of her six attempts.


Goal shoot Valerie Farfel scored three of eight attempts for Sandals All Stars and goal attack Giovanni Lucien netted six of 15 attempts.


Defence Force of Trinidad and Tobago doubled the tally of Shamrock Youth of St Lucia, winning their encounter 44-22.


Defence Force led at the intervals 8-5, 19-12, 31-20.


Scoring for Defence Force, were shooter Karlene Sylvester (23/29), goal attack Kemeira James (7/7) and goal shoot/attack Dianne Pierre (14/18).


Shooting for Shamrock Youth continues to be a problem.


Goal shoot Allison Anthony scored only 18 of 30 attempts and goal attack Denise Charles two from 12.


Goal shoot Faithline Theodore scored two from four attempts.


In an All St Lucian affair, Elite Strikers trounced Orion 69-20 leading all intervals 17-6, 33-9, 49-15.


Goal shoot Glatta Peterson was again impressive for Elite Strikers scoring 30 of 39 attempts, while national player Deidra Mathurin, who also played goal-shoot, netted 18 of 20 attempts.


Goal attacks Roxanne Snyder (15/20) and Beverly Francis (6/10) completed the scoring for Elite.


In an inconsistent shooting display, goal shoot Natasha Charles scored six from 12 attempts and goal attack Rebecca Mathurin seven from 14.


Camilla Brice scored seven from nine attempts to seal Orion’s effort.


The tournament continues Tuesday evening with the feature match being a clash between unbeaten teams Police Stars and Elite Strikers.


In the other two scheduled matches, Sandals All Stars play Roy’s Inn TRAC of St Vincent and the Grenadines and Sandals Youth play Orion.
