Crabs stay in hunt for title
CRAB CONNECTION stayed in the hunt for the 2005 Sportworld Super League title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Stokely Vale as matches in the 21st round were contested yesterday. At the Plymouth Recreation Ground, the "Crabs" got a 45th minute winner from Marvin Oliver to narrow the gap with leaders Joe Public to five points. Police allowed a 2-0 lead to slip away as they were held to a 2-2 draw by PLIPDECO Caroni at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva. Goals from Dwight Elliott (31st) and Neri Joseph (51st) gave the lawmen a comfortable lead but their defence faltered midway in the second half, with Devon Bristol scoring an own goal in the 69th and Jesse De Four completing the come-back in the 73rd. WASA Clean & White got a double from Darin Lewis to defeat Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix 3-2 at Canaan, Bon Accord. After Alvris Faure put WASA in front after 27 minutes, Lewis got in the act - in the 51st and 81st. Two goals from Dominique Kerr, in the 52nd and 90th, were little solace for Phoenix, who remained in sixth-spot. But the day’s shock result came in the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, as Couva Players United took care of Superstar Rangers 5-3 in a high-scoring thriller. Eduardo Guadagnucci (10th) and St Nicholas Benjamin (14th and 20th) put Couva 3-0 ahead but Rangers rallied to tie the scores through Colin Roberts (42nd) and Josimar Belgrave (43rd and 49th). The Couva lads were not going to be denied however, as they sealed full points with goals from Quami Knights (83rd) and Aaron Downing (86th). The day’s other fixture saw M&M Harvard holding off a courageous effort from Media 21 FC to prevail 3-2 at the Mt Hope Junior Secondary School. Richard Charles put Media ahead in the 13th before Harvard stormed back with items from Seon Jack (27th), Christon Freitas (38th) and Keremy Goddard (50th). Dexter Joslyn reduced the deficit to 3-2 in the 55th minute but Harvard maintained their lead for the remaining 35 minutes.
