Jabloteh edge tough Tobago 3-2

MIDFIELDER KERRY Baptiste scored a 58th minute winner as CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh withstood a tough effort from Tobago United to prevail 3-2 in their 20th round of action in the T&T Pro League.

Also on Tuesday night, United Petrotrin and North East Stars battled to a 1-1 draw while Defence Force played to a goal-less stalemate against Caledonia AIA/Fire.

There were no change between the seven teams on the standings, with W Connection way ahead on 46 points, 12 more than Jabloteh while Defence Force and Caledonia follow on 27 each.

At the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Baptiste found the back of the net in the 13th minute to put Jabloteh in front, but the hosts will level the scores in the 26th courtesy Noel Williams.

Jabloteh regained their advantage through Kerry Noray, three minutes into the second half, but the hosts again fought back to equalise, via veteran forward Ashford Legerton, in the 52nd.

The match will have a final twist when the slimly-built Baptiste sealed the win six minutes later.

Petrotrin seemed on course for only their third win of the season following a 11th minute strike from Kelvin Hernandez at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.

But, in second-half stoppage time, former national striker Gary Glasgow netted a match-saving equaliser for the dethroned champs.

Despite a 13-minute spell midway in the second half, with Caledonia threatening on a number of forays, their encounter against Defence Force was a forgettable affair at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.

The encounter, which was littered with a proliferation of bad passes and lethargic attacks, came to life in the 64th minute when Defence Force failed to clear a drive from Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Densil Theobald.

Ex-TT defender Shurland David sent his rebound against the crossbar, before the ball was eventually gathered by goalkeeper Cleon John.

John was called into action in the 72nd, as he was forced to parry a right-footer from a sliding Titus Elva while, in the 74th, a move involving Elva and former national forward Nigel Pierre resulted in a wide left-footer from Theobald.

But an embarrassing miss from Elva three minutes later summarised the entire match. After dispossessing his national team-mate Anton Pierre in the Defence Force’s backline, Theobald found Nigel Pierre who sent Elva clear in the penalty box. With John at his mercy, Elva skied his right-footer overbar from eight metres out.
