Lystra Lewis, Crawford made Parkite life members

LONG serving sports administrator Lystra Lewis and Olympic gold medallist Hasely Crawford have been made honorary life members of Queen’s Park Cricket Club.

Making this revelation was club vice-president of Bruce Aanensen, during an interview on radio station WMJX 100.5 FM yesterday.

West Indies women coach Ann Browne-John an ex-WI star player and Yvette Gomez, wife of ex-national and WI all-rounder Gerry Gomez, were also confirmed as honorary life members on Wednesday.

Aanensen said the club will be looking at other persons who are worthy of such recognition, especially women.

Only last year, the Parkites broke with tradition and voted to allow women to gain membership in the 109-year-old all-male club.

"Initially we had three people who have been significantly involved in sport," said Aanensen. "Two of them have been very involved in cricket, and it is a cricket club, and then the third person, Lystra Lewis is one of the top sports administrators in the country for many years."

Aanensen who is also the current manager of the Trinidad and Tobago football squad, continued: "She (Lewis) has also been the chairman of the WITCO Sports Foundation for many years and is still a member of the First Citizens Bank Sports Foundation.

"She (Lewis) was secretary of the Trinidad and Tobago Netball Association and coach of the "Calypso Girls" netballers at the time we won the World Championship in 1979," Aanensen added.

"But we will be a couple other names who we will bring in at a later time, particularly those associated with sport." Aanansen also explained what it meant to become a life member of the club.

"You become like a full member except that you do not have to pay any subscription and that honorary membership is for life," he stated.

"These three women, and I must also mention Hasely Crawford, were approved on Wednesday as honorary members and do not have to pay but have the full rights as a member of the club."
