Mahabir XI on top in trials


AFTER two days of action in the third national cricket trial match, ahead of the 2006 Carib Beer Cricket Series which starts next month, the Gregory Mahabir XI held an imposing 241-run lead, with five wickets to spare, at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.


Resuming on their overnight score of no run for no wicket, after dismissing the Mahabir XI for 232 in their first innings on Thursday, the Jason Mohammed XI were bundled out for 108 yesterday.


National youth team spinners Magnum Nanan and Sunil Narine snared seven wickets, with left-arm spinner Nanan claiming four wickets for 37 runs and Narine, three for 12.


At the close of play, the Mahabir XI were in a spot of bother at 117 for five wickets with Samuel Badree, who topscored with 56 in the first innings, unbeaten on 38. Pace bowler Reyad Emrit grabbed three wickets for 17 for the Mohammed XI. With the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of Control (TTCB) holding their executive elections today, the trial match will continue tomorrow.
