Hypolite U-19 Scalextric champ


RONDELL HYPOLITE, a 15-year-old student of St Joseph’s College, won the Under-19 Formula-One Championships at the Model Car Association’s 35th annual National Scalextric Championships.


Hypolite earned 75 points to claim first place at the championships held at Maritime Centre, Barataria, on Saturday.


He was followed by 18-year-old Janelle Joseph (74.4), Nigel Calcut (60.7) and Patrice Chin King (45.6).


Marilyn Peters prevailed in the Women’s Division, ahead of Sayyad Khan, a 19-year-old student of the School of Business and Computer Science, who tallied 76.6, while Khan’s father Sheik was third with 64 and Anthony Temull fourth with 59.3.


Winners and runners-up in both divisions all earned spots on the Trinidad and Tobago team for the Caribbean Championships in Grenada next July.


Meanwhile, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals in both the women and Over-35 categories will take place today, from 1 pm, at Gulf City, La Romain.


And the Open and Champion of Champion Divisions, as well as the clash between a national team and Barbados, will take place at the Barataria venue on November 12 from 9 am.
