Connection look to Lucozade ‘Big Six’
W CONNECTION will be looking to continue their march towards the TT Pro League trophy when they oppose United Petrotrin in the first round of the Lucozade Sport “Big Six” contest today. Kick-off time is 6 pm at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Under the 2005 league format, the top six teams (thus excluding Tobago United) will meet in a round-robin contest, as the season draws to a close. But the “Savonetta Lads”, who won the inaugural Toyota Classic title in an ill-tempered 1-0 win over CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh at the same venue on Friday, can even claim the Pro League crown on the basis of today’s results.
The league leaders have a 15-point cushion over Jabloteh and, if Connection defeat Petrotrin and Jabloteh draw, or lose, to Defence Force, then the title will head back South for the first time since 2001. Even a draw for Connection can see them lift the trophy, if Defence Force manage a victory against Jabloteh at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima. The Defence Force-Jabloteh clash will take place at 4 pm while, two hours later, dethroned champs North East Stars will meet Caledonia AIA/Fire.
