Dr Webster makes a good point
THE EDITOR: I was indeed taken aback by the lacklustre performance of the West Indies cricket team in the current series Down Under. Like many, I thought that given the decent performances put in by the team in the pre-test games, it would give a good account of itself. But this was not to be. I have observed that everyone on the team save Devon Smith and Denesh Ramdin seemed to have confidence problems. This showed itself most visibly with the batsmen who just could not negotiate the bowlers. Even Mr Lara had his fair share of trouble with the bowlers (not to mention his misfortune with the umpire in the first inning). Dr Rudy Webster while commenting on the team’s chances in the series made the point that the team would do well if it could adequately treat with the psychological demands of the game. I think that Dr Webster is on to something that Mr Bennet King needs to examine. VICTOR MALONEY Diego Martin
