Fenwick gets 10-match ban, $24,000 fine
TERRY FENWICK, coach of CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, has been slapped with a ten-match ban and imposed with a hefty $24,000 fine after his role in last Friday’s infamous brawl during the Toyota Classic competition final. A fight broke out during the encounter between Jabloteh and eventual winners W Connection at the Manny Ramjohn Stradium, Marabella, with five players and Fenwick subsequently set off by referee Richard Piper midway into the second half. The T&T Pro League’s Disciplinary Committee, comprising Wayne Caesar, Sharon O’Brien, Roy Jagroopsingh and Paul Regis, met at the League’s headquarters at Valpark Plaza, Valsayn on Wednesday with Jabloteh’s Ian Gray and Dexter Franklyn as well as Connection’s Gefferson Goulart and Travis Mulraine. According to a press release issued yesterday, "the committee gave full consideration to the video footage of the incident, the referee’s report, the match commissioner’s report and FIFA’s Disciplinary Code." Fenwick, the former England defender, was found guilty of violence in accordance with FIFA Disciplinary Code Article 48 while Gray, Franklyn and Mulraine were found guilty of involvement in a brawl in accordance with FIFA Disciplinary Code Article 49. And Goulart was found guilty of offensive behaviour in accordance with FIFA Disciplinary Code Article 54. When the dust was settled, Fenwick was given the heaviest punishment for striking Goulart with an elbow, after Goulart headed to the Jabloteh’s bench to celebrate his 67th minute winner. The Brazilian-born midfielder, for his taunting of the Jabloteh substitutes and team officials, received a two match ban while Gray, Franklyn and Mulraine were all hammered with six-match bans. The bans will cover matches in both the current Lucozade "Big Six" and the FA Cup. And the committee have also summoned the Connection pair David Atiba Charles and Ronaldo Viana to a meeting at the League’s office on Monday from 10.30 am.
