Pull aside, criminals coming

THE EDITOR: It is no wonder that criminals believe that they are ruling the society. Ordinary citizens are made to take second place to criminals even after they have been arrested for criminal offences; they still get priority over the rest of us.

Every morning during the rush hour, when traffic is heaviest, the travelling public is treated to a parade of prisoner conveyance vehicles accompanied by blaring sirens with cars being forced off the road to make way for these important personages. Too bad if you are in a traffic jam; you must edge your car to the side, however you can, to allow them to pass. Even if the road is clear, they come up behind you, lights flashing, siren clamouring, forcing every other vehicle to the side.

The prisoners have to be in court in time for the magistrate to postpone their matters and send them back to jail, to repeat the process another day.

The simple solution would be to have the prisoners leave the prison earlier in the morning to allow them to be transported to court before the traffic builds up. That would be so simple since other police officers and prison officers are on duty long before the start of the normal work day and processing of prisoners could easily be done earlier.

Can the travelling public expect that kind of consideration from our masters?
