South Africans cheating West Indies
THE EDITOR: What else can you expect in a cricket test where the likes of Rudi Koertzen, Ian Howell and Mike Proctor are officiating? History has shown the bias attitude of South African um-pires towards the West Indies players: 1) Dominic Cork of England went on to score 56 after he had stepped on his stumps in 1995. 2) Greg Blewett of Australia benefitted from some faulty leg before wicket decisions as a bowler against the West Indies in 1999. David Orchard, the South African umpire caused the Australians to level the Test Series. 3) A match referee from South Africa who once played as a wicket-keeper made a ruling against Ridley Jacobs who was not at fault in 2001. Now Australia is benefitting from the way Brian Lara was given out in the first innings of the West Indies. This is the type of backwardness Aussie fans protested against when Sir Frank Worrell was the West Indies captain during the 1960-61 Test series. Even in an age where minority-rule is in the past in South Africa, ‘aparthate’ is still alive and active in international sports. Thankfully, that has no place in the free world.
