Wear red, back Dauntless Hero in feature

RACING in Red! That’s the theme of the Carib Brewery-sponsored Friday Lime on Arima Race Club Day 34 programme at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, today.

The racing fraternity have decided to show their solidarity with the Trinidad and Tobago football Warriors who face Bahrain tomorrow in a crucial World Cup playoff at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The ARC brought forward their programme by 24 hours to allow their employees to take in the game and support the Warriors.

Their nine-race programme which begins from 12.25 pm, is a very competitive one, with each event bearing the name of a member of the team with the feature bearing the name of midfield supremo Russell Latapy.

This race, a Restricted Handicap over 1200 metres promises an exciting finish, with any of Dauntless Hero, Soul Asylum, Second Chances and Naturelly Classy capable of taking the first prize of $11,000. Another race which can provide a thrilling finish is the Avery John 1600 metres on the turf course.

Here, Comanchero, Groomsman, Bon Voyage and Snooky Lou are sure to carry the turfites money.

Most open race of the day is the Carlos Edwards sprint over 1100 metres on the turf for three-year-old maidens.

This poses a guessing game to turfites, but the most favoured should be Trini Express, The Final Chapter, Rusalka and My Boy Babes. Apart from the horses on the day’s card, interest will also be centred on the jockeys with Venezuelan rider Wilmer Galviz and local apprentice Joshua Stephen featuring in a tight race to the championship title left vacant by Brian Harding who is riding at Caymanas Park, Jamaica.

To date, Galviz has booted home 39 winners, one more than Stephen (J), with Ricardo Jadoo on 32 winning rides looming as a late threat with just five more racing days to go to wrap up the season.

With this in mind, it will pay turfites to follow horses ridden by these three jockeys on today’s Racing In Red.
