He was Naturelly Classy in Latapy feature

NATURELLY CLASSY showed eight rivals a clean pair of heels in winning the feature Russell Latapy Restricted Handicap on Carib Brewery "Friday Lime" Racing In Red Day at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday.

From the off in the 1200 metres race, young jockey Gary Laban had the Freshly Squeezed/Just A Lady near the front and when he kicked for home none could go with him as the rank outsider finished a comfortable three and three-quarter lengths ahead of the grey Punto A Punto with the consistent Second Chances finishing third.

On a day when owners, trainers and grooms were basically clad in red in solidarity with the Trinidad and Tobago football Warriors who face Bahrain in their final hurdle for a place in World Cup Germany 2006, favourites obliged and with the small fields, dividends were relatively moderate.

But it did not prevent Ballybunion from running away with the finale, the Christopher Birchall Optional Claiming over 1350 metres.

This rank outsider rewarded backers with $26.50 and $4.40 on the tote, and together with second placed Preffered Share and third Peace Of Mind, the trifecta payout was $1,249.40, and with fourth placed Dare To Dream the superfecta was $$3,724.20, all best of the day.

The race among the jockeys for the 2005 title continues to rage on, as young Joshua Stephen landed Wild Life in the second race of the day, the Silvio Spann Optional Claiming over 1750 metres off the turf, to tie leader Wilmer Galviz on 39.

But the Venezuelan later scored with first- time starter Bright King, who showed blindling speed for an impressive victory over the imported two-year-olds and over maidens in the raced named after ace goalscorer Stern John to regain the lead on 40 wins.

And Ricardo Jadoo kept in touch with one winner to his credit today, but the star rider of the day was again teenage Neela Mohammed who had two winning rides and was second on three occasions.

None of the leading trainers saddled a winner on yesterday’s nine-race programme.
