Action at Hasely Crawford Stadium
THE action at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, on Saturday night was end-to-end with the Trinidad and Tobago Football Warriors having to battle from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in their World Cup playoff match against visiting Bahrain. The stadium was a sea of red as local supporters donned all different shades of red in support of their Warriors. But their vociferous shouts were temporarily silenced in the 73rd minute when Salman Isa scored for the Bahranis. It was not long after, however, that the Trinis were back in good voice when English import Christpher Birchall blasted the ball past the Bahrain goalkeeper Ali Hassan Ali for the equalising goal in the 76th minute. Both teams flew out early yesterday morning for Manama, Bahrain, where the face-off second-leg game takes place with the winners gaining their first-ever opportunity to trudge the World Cup stage in Germany 2006.
