Viana banned for six matches
NATIONAL defender David Atiba Charles will serve a one-match suspension while fellow W Connection teammate, midfielder Ronaldo Viana has been slapped with a six-match ban, arising out of the infamous brawl between members of Connection and CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh at the Toyota Classic competition final. Already, Jabloteh’s coach Terry Fenwick was hit with a 10-match ban and a $24,000 fine while Dexter Franklyn, Ian Gray (both of Jabloteh) and Travis Mulraine (of Connection) were handed six-match bans and Connection’s Gefferson Goulart (two matches) after their roles in the brawl at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella on November 4. The Disciplinary Committee of the T&T Pro League held a meeting with Charles, Viana and Connection captain Earl Jean at its Valsayn office on Monday morning. After reviewing videos of the incident, as well as interviewing the trio, the committee imposed the suspension on Charles - based on the fact that he was given his second bookable offence during the match, while Viana was handed the ban according to FIFA’s Disciplinary Code Article 49.But Jean was declared innocent of any offence during the melee and no sanction was imposed on the St Lucian-born striker.
