Luton celebrate Edwards’ success
LONDON: Luton Town are celebrating the achievement of their winger Carlos Edwards who, along with the Trinidad and Tobago team, qualified for next year’s World Cup in Germany. "Every player looks at it differently. It is a fantastic achievement and we are delighted for him," manager Mike Newell said on Thursday. "For Luton Town to have a player at the World Cup is fantastic." He continued: "I wouldn’t imagine since Mal Donaghy in 1986 that there has been any other Luton Town players represented at the World Cup finals, which would have been over 20 years ago come next summer." Edwards signed with Luton ahead of the new season after Welsh League One club Wrexham, where he spent five seasons, were demoted. He has scored just once but is a favourite at the East England club. "It’s a fantastic achievement for Trinidad and Tobago and we’re delighted that Carlos is our player," Newell said. "We would like to think that there might be an opportunity, albeit a long shot of getting another one there."
