Guyanese cyclist wins in south

GUYANESE cyclist Jude Bentley won the three-stage Tour of San Fernando ride which ended yesterday. Bentley rode with determination throughout, finishing third after the end of the opening stage just under seven minutes behind leader Jason Perryman of Barbados. The Guyanese was timed in  2:18.02 with Perryman clocking 2:10.84. Second was Colin Wilson of Team Trek who was timed in 2:17.46. But Bentley was ahead of the field at the close of the second stage of the Tour in a time of 1:03.10.05 with junior rider Marc Codrington of Sonics in second but was given the same time. Perryman was ninth.


Phillip Clarke of Rafmon M/Fab led the pack at the third stage in 2:35.00.45 with Bentley a shade slower in 2:35.06.39 and veteran Guy Costa (Rafmon M/Fab) third on 2:35:19.77. Bentley was also the primes leader with 17 points, a clear nine points ahead of runner-up Clarke with Christopher Gill (Rafmon) next on five. Codrington was the winner among the Juniors, while Alexander Gibbon (Corkies Casuals) topped the Juveniles. Kent Luces (Sonics) led the Veterans 50 and over, with Ronald Peters (Madonna) doing likewise among the 60 and over veteran riders, while Richard Ramchand (Team Trek) won the Veterans 40-49 year-old bracket.
