‘Gally’ hails the Soca Warriors
FORMER Trinidad and Tobago football coach Everald "Gally" Cummings has sent his congratulations to the Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors for their achievement in securing a place in the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany. Cummings is currently recuperating from a knee surgery at the Frank Pias Authopedic Clinic in Havana, where he had been during the one-nil win by Trinidad and Tobago over Bahrain in Manama. The goal was headed by lanky defender Dennis Lawrence in the 48th minute . "Gally" said he is feeling relieved at the success of the players. But he also singled out the talented veteran midfielder Russell Latapy who is known as the "Little Magician" and former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke for the roles they played in helping to secure the win. He pointed out that the victory was long in coming, but it was one that they rightfully deserved for their hard work. "Gally" said he had been restricted to his bed after the surgery but the news of the qualification has given him the strength to move about a little. He added that Trinidad and Tobago have struggled for years to reach the World Cup Finals and the dream has finally come true. He had only recently expressed the view that a qualifying berth will assist in the development of the sport in Trinidad and Tobago. He also said that now that Trinidad and Tobago have qualified for the world biggest stage, focus can now be on football development.
