Ganga named TT cricket captain
DAREN GANGA, as expected, will lead a 13-member Trinidad and Tobago’s team for their first Carib Beer Cricket Series fixture against the Leeward Islands. The match will take place from December 2 to 5 at Webster Park, Anguilla. The West Indies "A" team captain and ex-Test opener will lead a youthful squad for the game, with Brian Lara, Dwayne Bravo and Denesh Ramdin doing their stuff with the West Indies team in Australia, while fast bowler Ravi Rampaul is injured and Jamaican-born Ricardo Powell unavailable. Ganga will have to turn to former Test bowlers — pacer Mervyn Dillon and left-arm Dave "Tadpole" Mohammed, for experience while the batting will be led by Ganga, younger brother Sherwin, West Indies youth team batsmen Lendl Simmons and Tishan Maraj, and West Indies "A" team all-rounder Richard Kelly. Completing the team are opener Imran Khan, middle-order batsmen Samuel Badree and Gregory Mahabir, wicket-keeper Gibran Mohammed, pace bowler Rayad Emrit and off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth. Five reserves were named by the national selection panel — Atiba Alert, Reshard Harris, Sanjeev Gooljar, Theodore Modeste and TT Under-19 captain Jason Mohammed. David Williams and Gerard Garcia will remain as coach and trainer respectively while Omar Khan returns as manager, a year after he was replaced by Giles Antoine.
