Woman’s throat slit
An 11-year-old schoolgirl on her way to visit her mother at Boys Lane, D’Abadie, made the grizzly discovery of the body of her mother, Sherida Chickoree, in a pool of blood in the gallery of the house at 7.40 am yesterday. Vicky Soogrim, a student of the D’Abadie Government School, was in the habit of visiting her mother every morning before going to school. At about 7.40 am, when she entered the yard, she stumbled upon the lifeless body of her mother, clad in a black top and black jeans. Her throat had been slit. The screaming schoolgirl alerted relatives who rushed to the crime scene. The murder is the 338th for the year to date. Police officers led by acting Insp Johnny Abraham went to the scene along with a district medical officer, and the body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre. Shamshun Mohammed, mother of the dead woman, told Newsday that Chickoree was married on March 14 last year. She added that last month, a man her daughter knew had attempted to kill her, and she warned her daughter to be careful. The grieving woman told Newsday that Chickoree had just gotten a job and was staying at the home of people who reside abroad. She said she had feared for the safety of her daughter because of constant death threats. Mohammed added that she had begged her daughter to return home for her own safety, but she refused, saying she was alright. Neighbours of the dead woman told Newsday that they heard screams coming from the house at 10 pm Sunday. They paid no heed to the cry for help, but were shocked yesterday on hearing that the mother of two had been killed. Abraham is heading investigations.
